Mitty Lene Collier (born June 21, 1941 in Birmingham , Alabama ) is an American soul and gospel singer .

Career

Collier began her musical career in the Hayes Ensemble, a gospel group, and sang in church as a child. Ralph Bass discovered her at a talent competition and made contact with Chess Records , where she signed a record deal in 1960. Collier initially recorded "secular" songs and had her first success with I'm Your Part Time Love , which reached number 20 on the R&B charts in the fall of 1963.

In 1964 she recorded James Cleveland's spiritual I Had a Talk with My God Last Night , but replaced the word "God" with "man". The song reached number 3 on the Billboard R&B singles chart and number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 . a. covered by Dusty Springfield , Marva Wight, Inez Foxx and Shirley Brown. Other recordings for Chess include Come Back Baby , For My Man , Sharing You , Watching and Waiting , That'll Be Good Enough and You're the Only One . Sharing You entered the top 10 on the R&B charts in 1966.

In 1968, Collier left Chess Records and recorded 5 singles for William Bell's Peachtree label. In 1972 she ended her secular career and began to sing gospel, she also made several records in this field. Today she is pastor of the More Like Christ Christian Fellowship Ministries in Chicago.
