Inez Foxx
Inez Rebecca Foxx (born September 9, 1942 in Greensboro ) is an American R&B and soul singer and songwriter . She composed for Aretha Franklin , The Platters , Taj Mahal , Dusty Springfield and The Commodores , among others .
Life
Foxx grew up in Greensboro and started singing in a gospel group early on . In 1959 she received a recording contract and released the song A Feeling (That I Can't Explain) in October 1960 under the name Inez Johnston. In 1963 she achieved her first and biggest chart success, now as Inez Foxx, with the title Mockingbird . The single reached the top 10 of the American R&B and pop charts. With Hi Diddle Diddle , Ask Me and Hurt by Love , further, albeit smaller, hits followed until 1964.
Together with her brother Charlie, who was also her manager, Foxx released various albums and singles from 1966. Their joint greatest hits album was in the top 30 of the Billboard R&B charts in 1988. Five of the two musicians' songs became R&B chart hits , including the most successful duet (1-2-3-4-5-6-7) Count the Days from 1967.
Inez Foxx married the composer, producer and singer Luther Dixon in the mid-1960s.
