Anton of Anhalt-Zerbst
Anton Günther von Anhalt-Zerbst (born November 11, 1653 in Zerbst ; † December 10, 1714 in Zerbst) from the Askanians was a Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst and a royal Prussian lieutenant general .
Life
Anton Günther was the fourth son of Prince Johann von Anhalt-Zerbst (1621–1667) from his marriage to Sophie Auguste (1630–1680), daughter of Duke Friedrich III. from Holstein-Gottorp . From 1669 to 1672 Anton Günther undertook his Grand Tour , which took him to Holland, England, France and Italy.
Anton Günther fought in Dutch and Electoral Saxon services; in Prussian service he finally became Lieutenant General of the Infantry in 1705 . In the campaign against France he took part in the sieges of Oudenaarde , Grave and Philippsburg . Together with Elector Johann Georg III. of Saxony he took part in the relief of Vienna in 1683 . In 1690 he became the Brandenburg commander in Ath in Brabant and owner of the former Zieten regiment on foot . In the Battle of Steenkerke in 1692 he was wounded by five bullets; his left arm was shattered in the process , he was wounded again by a bullet in the arm in the battle of Landau and by a shot in the chest during the siege of Bonn . The injuries eventually forced him to retire from the military. He withdrew in his final years, occupied himself with religious issues and fell into depression.
He was accepted as a member of the Literary Fruitful Society under the company name “The Splendid” .
Marriage and offspring
Anton Günther married in a morganatic marriage on January 1, 1705 in Zerbst Auguste Antonie Marschall von Bieberstein (1659–1736), a lady-in-waiting of his mother who was raised to "Frau von Günthersfeld" on the occasion of the marriage. With her, Anton Günther had a daughter:
