Mobotix (proper spelling: MOBOTIX) is a manufacturer of digital and network-based video surveillance systems . The company headquarters are in Langmeil near Kaiserslautern .

The company sells its products in over 70 countries, has around 350 employees and achieved sales of 65.49 million euros in the 2017 financial year.

history

Mobotix was founded in June 1999 by Ralf Hinkel, Sabine Hinkel and Klaus Borchers as a stock corporation and went public on October 10, 2007. The share was listed in the Prime Standard until December 2013 .

The end of 2009 the company moved its company headquarters to the newly built headquarters in Langmeil , a district of Winnweiler . The production site remained in Kaiserslautern until July 2011 and has also been located in Langmeil since then.

In 2013 Mobotix recorded a sharp drop in profits and issued a profit warning .

In March 2016 the Japanese Konica Minolta took over a large part of the shares (approx. 65%). The purchase price should have been around 110 million euros.

Since May 2019 the Supervisory Board has consisted of Yuji Ichimura, Keiji Okamoto and Olaf Jonas.

Products

Mobotix tries to move functions (e.g. the storage of single images or videos) that are centrally available in classic video surveillance systems to the cameras.

The cameras manufactured in Germany are exclusively network cameras .

The Video Management System (VMS) introduced in 2005 is used in prisons, airports and soccer stadiums.

Mobotix offers cameras with a fisheye lens . Such cameras enable almost complete room surveillance . Only the space behind the camera and the space of the camera itself remain unrepresented.

Since 2011, the IP video door station has been a product for access control with video door intercoms. The demand for this product (according to the Mobotix annual report 2011/2012) fell short of expectations.

With the 6 MP moonlight technology, with which all cameras have been equipped since 2015, videos should be able to be produced without motion blur despite difficult lighting conditions, but this is not physically possible.

Market position

The company holds fifth place worldwide in terms of market share in the video surveillance segment. In the EMEA region (“Europe, Middle East, Africa”) the company has a market share of 16.3 percent and is in second place.

At the beginning of 2013, Mobotix was the world market leader in the megapixel surveillance camera segment.

Corporate management

At the time of the IPO, the company was headed by founder Ralf Hinkel.

When Konica Minolta, Inc. acquired the majority of the shares, Yuji Ichimura and Kunihiro Koshizuka were appointed as new members of the Supervisory Board. Ralf Hinkel left the Supervisory Board in June 2016. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board has been Yuji Ichimura, Executive Officer at Konica Minolta, Inc. since June 2016.

Since June 1, 2018, the Management Board has consisted of the Chairman of the Management Board Thomas Lausten (CEO) and the other members Hartmut Sprave (CTO) and Klaus Kiener (CFO).
