Mod Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mod Records , also Mod Records Cologne , was an independent music label for jazz music that was active in West Germany in the mid-1950s.

history

The record label Mod Records was founded in 1954 by the jazz impresario Gigi Campi in Cologne. It is considered the first independent European jazz label. Between 1954 and 1956 Campi released a total of eleven long-playing records and five EPs with modern jazz from Europe on Mod Records . The covers of the records, but also posters for the mod label, were usually designed by Wolfgang Raquet (1928–2013), often based on photographs taken by the Cologne-based photo artist Chargesheimer .

The label's repertoire included recordings by Harald Banter Ten-Tet , Jutta Hipp , Roland Kovac , Bill Grah , Lars Gullin , Lee Konitz , Hans Koller , Bill Russo , the Rudi Sehring Trio (with Attila Zoller and Johnny Fischer , bass) and of the brothers Emil and Albert Mangelsdorff .

In 1956 Campi stopped its label activities. Some of the recordings he produced could no longer be released on the label; they appeared z. Partly in licensed editions for Italian labels. The recordings made for Mod Records were in a box set ( Mod Records Cologne - Jazz in West Germany 1954–56 ) in 2014 at BE! Jazz relaunched.
