Relief rune stones in Löts kyrka
The relief stones in Löts kyrka are in Ramby, west of Ekolsundsviken near Enköping am Mälaren in Uppland in Sweden .
The relief rune stones ( Swedish Reliefhuggna ) discovered in the church of Löt during the renovation of the church in 1908 are located in the choir in niches on both sides of the altar . U 722 is cut very deep with knot patterns and has probably always stood in a protected environment.
In Mälardalen there are three relief rune stones made of sandstone . The relief stone Sö 92 is at the church of Husby-Rekarne, southwest of Eskilstuna in Södermanland , while U 721 and U 722 are in Löts kyrka. All of them were cut by the rune master Ball, who was active in the 11th century, to whom about 30 rune carvings , possibly also by the most popular in Finland , can be assigned. The punctuation of points and colons is oval. This is in line with the Finnish fragment.
The marginal texts are:
- U 721: Ingegärd had… [erecting the stone after?] Holmfrids her husband and Djärv's brother. Balle carved the runes.
- U 722: Tafast had this stone built after his brother ... God help his soul.
- Relief Rune Stones
Relief rune stones are not uncommon on Gotland and Öland , but there are almost exclusively made of limestone .
