mod_ruby is an embedded Ruby - interpreter for the Apache Web server , which allows Ruby code to execute directly from within Apache, faster than other CGI methods. The disadvantage is that the sharing of classes between the Apache processes is not safe when several applications are running simultaneously , which means that several Ruby-on-Rails applications run simultaneously.

Today mod_ruby has largely been supplanted or replaced by Phusion Passenger .
