Modesto Bargalló

Modesto Bargalló Ardevol (* 1894 in Sabadell , Catalonia , † 1981 in Mexico City ) was a Spanish-Mexican teacher of natural sciences, biologist , chemist and chemical historian .

After completing his master's degree in 1911, Bargallo became a professor at the Escuela Normal de Maestros de Guadalajara in 1915 . He also studied further and received his doctorate in natural sciences in 1931 at the Central University of Madrid under Ignacio Bolívar . He wrote various textbooks on, for example, chemistry (although he also translated works by Richard Meyer and Wilhelm Ostwald from German), physics and biology. In 1928 he founded the magazine Faraday for the didactics of the natural sciences. He was also the editor of the Revista de Escuelas Normales . In 1939, after Franco's victory in the Spanish Civil War , he emigrated to Mexico and in 1940 became Professor of Biology at the National Polytechnic Institute .

Among other things, he published a book on metallurgy and mining history in the Spanish colonial era.

In 1977 he received the Dexter Award . In 1964 he was a founding member of the Mexican Society for the History of Science (Sociedad Mexicana de Historia de la Ciencia y la Tecnología).
