The Moerser Kirmes is the largest folk festival on the Lower Rhine . It takes place every year on the first weekend in September and attracts around half a million visitors to the city of Moers . The fair area extends from "Friedrich-Ebert-Platz" over the "Neumarkt" to the "Kastellplatz". About 200 showmen are involved in the fair .
Venues, procedure and general information
The Moerser Kirmes is held in Moers city center around the Royal Court . Friedrich-Ebert-Platz , on which most of the rides are located, is called the “main square” . The site continues over Homberger Strasse , which is parallel to the rescue station of the German Red Cross . Then Steinstrasse follows after the Royal Court . In both pedestrian zones there are mostly smaller stalls such as food stalls, but hardly any rides. Further follow the Neumarkt , in which the stage for Live - Cover - Acts located and the Castle Square , which is right on the Moers castle stretches.
The Moerser Kirmes takes place on the first weekend of September from Friday to Tuesday. The opening will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Constantly changing cover bands appear during the four days. As a conclusion, a large fireworks display will be set off on Friedrich-Ebert-Platz on Tuesday evening .
Traffic impact
Due to the fair, all three spaces, Friedrich-Ebert-Platz, Neumarkt and Kastellplatz, which all three otherwise serve as parking spaces , must be closed. However, this does not affect road traffic , only the access to the fort square, Haagstrasse , is blocked. In addition, parking in downtown Moers is severely impaired.
By cordoning off the bus stops at the Königlicher Hof, all stops at the “Königlicher Hof” stop will be moved to the “Neuer Wall” street.
