Mohamed Salem Ould Béchir

Mohamed Salem Ould Béchir ( Arabic محمد سالم ولد البشير, DMG Muḥammad Sālim walad al-Bašīr ; * December 17, 1962 in Ayoûn el-Atroûs , Mauritania ) is a Mauritanian politician who was Prime Minister of Mauritania from late October 2018 to August 5, 2019 after the resignation of his predecessor Yahya Ould Hademine and his government. Ould Béchir is a member of the Mauritanian party Union pour la République (UPR).

Career

Ould Béchir studied robotics in Grenoble and Compiègne ( France ). He started his career with the National Water and Electricity Society ( Sonelec ) in September 1986. From May 2007 to September 2009 he was Secretary General of various ministries until he was appointed General Director of Sanelec. In September 2013, he resigned to join the government as Minister for Water and Sanitation. In January 2015, he was appointed Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Mining, a position he held until 2016, when he was appointed Director of the National Society for Mining and Industry.

Following the resignation of Yahya Ould Hademine, he was appointed Prime Minister on October 30, 2018 , a few weeks after the victory of the ruling party, the Party of the Union for the Republic, in the parliamentary elections in September of that year. On August 5, 2019, he was replaced by his fellow party member Ismail Ould Bedde Ould Cheikh Sidiya .
