Mohini Dey

Mohini Dey (* 1996 in Mumbai ) is an Indian bass guitarist who works primarily in the field of fusion jazz .

Dey is the daughter of the bass guitarist Sujoy Dey, who recognized her talent early on. Under his guidance, she began to learn the instrument at the age of three and has been playing in the recording studio and at concerts since she was ten. Since 2010 she has been part of Ranjit Barot's band , with whom she performed on MTV Unplugged in 2011 . She has performed at international festivals since 2013, first on the Indian subcontinent, and in 2017 also at the Montreux Jazz Festival (with Abhijith PS Nair and Sandeep Mohan, documented on the album Saraswati at Montreux ). In recent years she has had the opportunity to work with Dave Weckl , Narada Michael Walden , AR Rahman , Louiz Banks , Zakir Hussain , Gergő Borlai , Sivamani, Gino Banks, George Brooks , Mike Stern , Nitin Sawhney , R. Prasanna / Varijashree Venugopal , Stephen Devassy, ​​Niladri Kumar, V. Selvaganesh or U. Rajesh. She can also be heard on albums by Ranjit Barot, Darshan Doshi and Steve Vai .

She had to turn down a scholarship from Berklee College of Music due to her activities, but performed at the institution at concerts.
