Varijashree Venugopal

Varijashree Venugopal (born March 6, 1991 in Bangalore ) is an Indian singer and flautist between jazz and carnatic music .

Live and act

Varijashree comes from a family of musicians. She was able to identify many ragas at a very early age and was initially trained by her father HS Venugopal. From the age of four she received formal training in carnatic music from Vidhushi H. Geetha, then from Gaanakalanidhi Vidwan Salem P. Sundaresan. She also learned the flute from her father. She gave her first performance at the age of seven in Bangalore Gayana Samaja .

Varijashree is part of the Bangalore-based fusion band Chakrafonics (together with Praveen D. Rao, Ajay Warrier and Pramath Kiran) and R. Prasannas Ragabop (with Mohini Dey ). There her style of "carnatic scat singing " caused a sensation. She also performed with Max Clouth and his clan. Varijashree has released albums such as Arpana , Upasana , Javali & Shayari , Devamanohari and Mela raga malika under his own name . She also wrote the music for documentaries and short films. She can also be heard on recordings by Nagaari, David P. Stevens, Max Clouth ( Kamaloka ) and the Italian trio Bobo ( Sensurround ).
