Max Clouth
Max Clouth (* 1985 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German guitarist (also sitar , bouzouki , composition ).
Live and act
Clouth, who heard a concert of Indian music for the first time at the age of 12, studied jazz guitar at the Mainz University of Music with Marc-Oliver Klenk and Norbert Scholly from 2005 and from 2008 at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden with Ralf Beutler and Stephan Bormann. He then took lessons from 2009 to 2012 with Pandit Nayan Ghosh at the Sangit Mahabharati Music School Mumbai and with Guitar Prasanna at the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music . He performed with Torsten de Winkel , Georg Boeßner , Arto Tuncboyaciyan , Embryo , Amit Trivedi and Arijit Singh.
His acoustic double neck guitar , which he developed himself with the instrument maker Philipp Neumann, has fretless top and bottom with frets and sympathetic strings , is based on oriental and Indian sounds such as oud or sarod . With his quartet Max Clouth Clan , drawing on the achievements of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, he developed the Indian Jazz Guitar style of music , which also incorporates Indian techniques when playing the guitar, double bass and drums.
In 2011 Clouth released his self-produced solo album Guitar ; the Times of India praised it as “great fusion” and “Western music with an Indian vibe”. Return Flight was the name of Max Clouth's second album, which he recorded with his clan and Indian musicians; In 2018 came Kamaloka (a Sanskrit term , literally translated as “place of desire”), in which two Indian singers, a tabla player and three strings complete the quartet.
In 2019 the LP studio concert was released with acoustic versions of the pieces by Return Flight and Kamaloka . Recorded live in the Bauer Studios , the band can be heard here with Kabuki on the modular synthesizer , violin and cello. Together with the Frankfurt electro artist Dan Bay, Clouth released the EP Voodoo Guitar in 2020 .
