Mohsen Rezai

Mohsen Rezai Mirgha'id ( Persian محسن رضایی میرقائد; * 1954 in Masjed Soleyman , Chuzestan Province ) is an Iranian general and politician. From 1981 to 1997 he was the leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and has been a member of the Arbitration Council since 1997 . Rezai belongs to the Bakhtiar ethnic group and speaks fluent Arabic in addition to Persian . Like Ali Larijani, Rezai is considered a moderate conservative.

Life

Mohsen Rezai, commander of the Pasdaran in the First Gulf War, including the Bassidji , was accused by the Association of Mothers of Child Soldiers of being responsible for the deaths of thousands of young people. An indictment in court was dismissed, also because the current revolutionary leader Seyyed Ali Chamene'i was then supreme commander of the armed forces.

Interpol is maintaining an international arrest warrant for Rezai on charges of commissioning Hezbollah in the worst assassination attempt in Argentine history to date. On July 18, 1994, 85 people were killed and more than 300 injured in the attack on the AMIA ( Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina , roughly "Israelite-Argentine Association for Mutuality").

In 2005 he ran for the presidential election, but withdrew his candidacy immediately before this. At the end of April 2009, he announced his candidacy for the 2009 presidential election . In an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung on May 10, 2009, Rezai described Mahmoud Ahmadinezhad's policy as a “path straight into the abyss” and said: “The way Ahmadinejad speaks, our revolutionary foreign policy became an adventurous event for gamblers. For example when he says that the Holocaust did not take place. "When asked whether he would have responded to the greeting message from US President Barack Obama as President , Rezai replied:" I think the change in course in US foreign policy is credible. "

Quote

“The American empire hovers between life and death. If America loses some of the countries it subjugated and plundered, there will be chaos in America. [...] America seems so big, but it's actually like a paper tiger. "
