Moi dix Mois is the solo project of Mana , the former guitarist and leader of the influential Japanese visual kei band Malice Mizer .

The project

On March 19, 2002, three months after Malice Mizer quit , Mana announced the creation of his solo project Moi dix Mois. At Moi dix Mois, Mana is not only a guitarist, he also composes all the music, writes the lyrics, designs the costumes and acts as a producer and general artistic director. Moi dix Mois CDs (and DVDs) are published by Mana's independent label Midi: Nette and distributed in Europe in partnership with Trisol , Mabell France and Gan Shin .

The project name Moi dix Mois translates as “I ten months”. According to Manas, "I" ( moi ) because it is a solo project, the number 1 stands for the beginning, the number 0 stands for eternity and the number 10 stands for the period of pregnancy (in Japan one does not count nine, but ten Months).

The fact that Mana calls himself "The Creator of Moi dix Mois" and thus places himself above his project members has met with criticism from some fans. However, he made it clear from the start that Moi dix Mois is not a new band, but rather his solo project. This can be clearly read on all CDs, DVDs and promotional materials. This means that the others contribute their vocal and musical talents, but ultimately only carry out Mana's artistic vision.

Support members

Little is known about the other project members. Tohru used to be a drummer with JILS and only some time after Juka and Kazuno became an official member of Moi dix Mois, although he already played drums for the band from the beginning. K was guitarist for Grand Zero (under the name Takeru) and Kazuno is said to have worked in one of Manas Moi-même-Moitié stores before joining Moi dix Mois.

On April 24, 2005, after the last concert of the "Invite to Immorality" tour in Tokyo, singer Juka left the project. In December 2005 Kazuno and Tohru followed for personal reasons and after a long search the new singer Seth was introduced in March 2006 .

According to rumors, Seth performed under the name Seiji in the groups After Image and Amadeus and is currently still a member of Brainhacker . However, this has not yet been officially confirmed. It has not yet been confirmed that Seth has the same tattoos as Seiji.

Sugiya ( electric bass ) and Hayato ( drums ) supported the project as live support members - both on the Beyond the Gate tour in 2006 and on the 15th Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig in June 2006. You are currently not permanent members of the project. Hayato is a former member of u. a. Blue , oxide , JILS and besides Moi dix Mois is also active as a support member for ENDLESS . Sugiya was previously a member of PlatinA Forest (under the name SUGI), Vanilla, KuRt (Support Member) and GHOST MOUSE CLUB , each under the name Kuro Kosugi (ク ロ ・ コ ス ギ).

K. died on May 19, 2014. His family found him dead in his apartment.

music

The music of Moi dix Mois is reminiscent of the late phase of Malice Mizer . Galloping spinet and church organ, electric guitar, Juka's dramatically trembling male voice, or Seth's technically very similar voice, which is occasionally supported by a female voice and fast, hard drums together result in a multi-layered and energetic sound between crossover , metal and classical elements. The built-in, classic elements stem from Mana's fascination for Johann Sebastian Bach . Mana's lyrics for Moi dix Mois are darker and more personal than the ones he wrote for Malice Mizer, and range between romantic melancholy, deep depression and despair.
