Mokoomba is a band from Zimbabwe . It is common in Europe and North America.
history
The band was formed in 2002 in Chinotimba Township by Victoria Falls by high school students. The name stands for the respect for the Zambezi and life on this river. The musicians have been working professionally since 2008.
In 2008, after a performance at the Music Crossroads Interregional Festival in Malawi's Lilongwe , she received the invitation to a European tour and to record a first album. Kweseka was published in 2009. The songs are written in different languages such as ChiTonga , Ndebele , Chichewa , Luvale , English and Shona and are about life in Zimbabwe. After her European tour in 2009, she went on a concert tour to Europe the following year, where she played at many festivals. Her second album Rising Tide was developed by the Ivorian singer and bassist Manou Gallo produced and appeared 2012. 13 guest musicians participated, among others, with brass instruments, kora and cello . Afterwards Mokoomba toured Europe again, where they performed at the WOMAD Festival, the Roskilde Festival and the Sziget Festival, among others . In 2017 the self-produced album Luyando (German: “Mutterliebe”) was created, which is primarily acoustically instrumented and mainly deals with traditions, especially from the musicians' home region. Then Mokoomba went on another tour through Europe and North America.
