Molai ( Greek Μολάοι ( m. Pl. )) Is a small town with around 3000 inhabitants in Laconia , Greece , which is 315 km southwest of Athens . Until it was incorporated into Monemvasia on January 1, 2011, Molai was an independent municipality - from 1947 township (dimos) - with (201) 4987 inhabitants, which was last significantly enlarged by incorporations in 1997. As the most populous town in Monemvasia, the city of Molai is also its administrative seat today.

history

The city of Molai is first mentioned by name in a document in 1292 during the period of the kingdom of Andronicus II. The name probably comes from the water mills in this region.
