Molchaniya Rock ( Russian Скала Молчания Skala Moltschanija , German 'Stiller Felsen' , Norwegian Molchanijaberget ) is an isolated rocky outcrop in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . In the Payer group of the Hoelfjella it rises 10 km west-northwest of the Rochlin-Nunatakker .
It was discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition (1938–1939) under the direction of Alfred Ritscher . Soviet scientists carried out a new mapping and naming on a research trip that lasted from 1960 to 1961. The latter was translated into English by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in 1970.
