The Moldovan Academy of Sciences ( Rum .: Academia de Științe a Moldovei , short ASM ) is a scientific institution in the Moldovan capital Chișinău . It is a leading center for basic research in the natural and social sciences in the Republic of Moldova.
history
The Moldovan Academy of Sciences emerged from the Moldovan Department of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1961 . In June 1946, the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR decided to establish a research station in Chișinău. The head of the station became Veaceslav Volghin.
In October 1949 the research station was converted into a separate department of the academy. From 1954 the department was headed by the historian JS Grosul. Important research areas were agricultural science and semiconductor physics as well as the Moldovan language and literature. In 1961 the independent Moldavian Academy of Sciences was founded. Between 1970 and 1981 the Academy published eight volumes of the Moldovan Soviet Encyclopedia (Енчиклопедия советикэ молдовеняскэ).
The academy is located in a building in the Centru district . She is a member of the International Science Council and the European association ALLEA .
