The Warnemünde pier lights are two small lighthouses on the west and east pier of Warnemünde . As a lateral sign they refer to the entrance to the Unterwarnow coming from the Mecklenburg Bay .

history

The approach to the ports of Warnemünde and Rostock has been indicated by beacons and beacons since 1886 . Ten years later, the port entrance was redesigned for the planned rail ferry connection to Denmark . Under the direction of the port construction director Karl Friedrich Kerner , the west pier was extended by around 130 meters in 1896 and marked with a light beacon. The east pier was built between 1897 and 1903 and also received a pier fire.

Instead of a steel lattice tower, a small lighthouse was built on the west pier in 1963. The black and white pier light was replaced by the current tower in 1985 and is now on the grounds of the 2003 International Horticultural Exhibition . The active west pier fire is a green and white steel tower that was moved to a new arm of the pier head in 1998. In the same year a new beacon was erected on the rebuilt and extended east pier. The red and white tower is almost identical to the west pier fire. The two pier lights are operated by the Stralsund Waterways and Shipping Office .

On the old east pier from 1903, which no longer exists, which since 1960 has separated the Neue Strom, the fairway from 1903, from the sea canal, the main fairway since 1960, like an elongated island, stood a slender steel tower with a filigree light as a pier light. The color scheme was recently black-red-black. From 1990 to 1997 there was a more modern navigation mark at this point. The yellow pier fire was dismantled in 1997 and has been in the Rathenower Havel since 2009 .
