Molette (grape variety)

The white wine variety Molette is mainly found in the Savoy region in eastern France . Their numbers are declining; While 99 hectares of planted vineyards were known in 1958 , the area fell to currently 36 hectares. The late-ripening variety is extremely vigorous and high-yielding.

The low-alcohol, slightly spicy wine is mostly blended with the white Altesse . In the Seyssel appellation , it is part of the region's sparkling wine .

Synonyms

Molette is also known by the synonyms Molette Blanche and Molette de Seyssel. The synonym Mondeuse Blanche is not valid because it was mistakenly confused with this grape variety.
