Molodova

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Molodowa ( Ukrainian and Russian Молодова , Romanian Moldova ) is a prehistoric site with remains of an accommodation from the Middle Paleolithic on the Dniester in Sokyrjany Raion of the Ukrainian Oblast Chernivtsi .

The place itself has sunk in the dammed river since a barrage was built. In a layer of the Moustérien (culture of the Neanderthal man ), large mammoth bones (5 lower jaws, 12 skulls, 15 tusks, 34 pelvic and shoulder blade bones and 51 tubular bones) were found in an almost circular arrangement (diameter 6–8 m) . Exactly opposite the bone ring was interrupted. Within the ring there were 15 fireplaces, in which, in addition to burnt bones, charred wood was also found.

It is believed to have come across traces of a wooden framework covered with animal skins, a forerunner of the yurt . On the one hand, the animal bones had a structural function, while others were probably used to weigh down the skins that lay over the wooden framework. The design points to similar residential areas from the Upper Palaeolithic , which can be traced from Eastern Europe (Avdejewo, Dobranitschewka, Gagarino, Kostjenki, Meschyritsch , Mesyn and Puschkari) to Siberia ( Venus figurines from Malta ).
