biology

The caterpillars develop on shaggy willowherb ( Epilobium hirsutum ), mountain willowherb ( Epilobium montanum ) and marsh willowherb ( Epilobium palustre ). The caterpillars develop from February to April and mine in the lower leaves near the petiole. The resulting white mines cannot be distinguished from those of the species Mompha lacteella . The caterpillars overwinter and pupate in the mine in an ocher-colored cocoon . The moths fly from late June to mid-September. They are nocturnal and come to light .
