Mona Matbou Riahi
Mona Matbou Riahi (* 1990 in Tehran ) is an Iranian improvisation musician ( clarinet ) and composer .
Live and act
Matbou Riahi received musical training at an early age; She had clarinet lessons at the Tehran Conservatory for Music . At the age of 17 she moved to Vienna, where she studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna until 2012 .
In her compositions of contemporary music and her free improvisations, she integrates western and Iranian musical elements. With the singers Golnar Shahyar and Jelena Popržan she formed the trio Sormeh , which interpreted songs in Farsi , Greek, Ladino , Serbian, Bulgarian, Yiddish and Turkish. The music album Narrante was created by the Naqsh duo together with the guitarist Golfam Khayam. She has also performed with soloists such as Mathias Rüegg , Burkhard Stangl , John Tilbury , Kinan Azmeh , Anja Lechner , François Couturier , Anna Clara Hauf and Maja Osjanik. Lukas Kranzelbinder brought her to the SWR New Jazz Meeting in 2018 with Fiston Mwanza Mujila , Johannes Schleiermacher , Mario Rom and Dave Smith . She also played in the Morgenland Chamber Orchestra and appeared as a soloist with the Tehran Philharmonic Orchestra . She currently belongs to the Max Steiner Orchestra .
Prizes and awards
Matbou Riahi is the winner of various competitions and grants, such as the Start grant 2017 and the Mozart Festival in cooperation with the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz.
