Monceau is an underground station on line 2 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located on the border between the 8th and 17th arrondissements of Paris .

Surname

Immediately south of the station is the eponymous Parc Monceau . It takes its name from the former village of Monceaux, which was founded there in the 14th century under the name of Montchauf.

history

The Monceau underground station was opened on October 7, 1902, when the section of the then line 2 north from Étoile (today: Charles de Gaulle - Étoile ) to the provisional terminus Anvers went into operation.

description

The station is located lengthways below the Boulevard de Courcelles. It has side platforms on two main tracks and a vaulted ceiling according to the Belgian construction method . The only access is on the park side next to the rotonde, it was designed by Hector Guimard .

traffic

Initially, trains made up of two-axle vehicles ran on Line 2 North. From 1914 to 1981 line 2 was used by Sprague-Thomson trains. Since it was not to be converted to vehicles with rubber tires in the medium term, the MF 67 series was launched in 1979 , completely replacing its predecessor within two years. Series vehicles of the MF 01 series have been used in the Monceau station since 2008 , now exclusively.
