location
The station is located on the border of the Quartier du Faubourg du Roule with the Quartier de l'Europe in the 8th arrondissement and the Quartier de la Plaine-de-Monceaux in the 17th arrondissement of Paris . It lies lengthways below the Boulevard de Courcelles at the intersection with the Rue de Courcelles.
Surname
The name gives the Boulevard de Courcelles and the Rue de Courcelles. Courcelles was a village outside the city, near gate 25 "Barrière de Courcelles" in the wall of the general tenants .
History and description
The station was opened on October 7, 1902, when the first extension of Line 2 (until 1907: Line 2 North) from Étoile (since 1970: Charles de Gaulle - Étoile ) to Anvers went into operation.
The white-tiled station is located lengthways below the Boulevard de Courcelles. It has side platforms on two main tracks and an elliptical vaulted ceiling, which was built in Belgian construction . Its walls follow the curvature of the ellipse, it is 75 m long. The two simply designed exits lead from the eastern end of the platform to the Boulevard de Courcelles.
vehicles
Initially, there were trains on line 2 north, which were made up of two-axle vehicles with wooden superstructures. From 1914 to 1981 line 2 was used by Sprague-Thomson trains. Since it was not to be converted to vehicles with rubber tires in the medium term, the MF 67 series was launched in 1979 , completely replacing its predecessor within two years. Series MF 01 series vehicles have been in use since 2008 , and mixed traffic with the MF 67 trains prevailed until 2011.
Surroundings
In the Rue Daru stands the Cathédrale Saint-Alexandre-Nevsky , built in the neo-Byzantine style , seat of the Archbishop of the Exarchate of the Orthodox Congregations of Russian Tradition in Western Europe .
