Monica Groop
Gerd Monica Groop , b. Riska (born April 14, 1958 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish opera singer (mezzo-soprano).
Life
She graduated from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in 1985 and sings as a mezzo-soprano . Her international career began in 1991 with the Ring des Nibelungen at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden , London . In 1993 she played the composer in Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss at the Opéra-Comique in Paris . In the late 1990s she gave concerts in London, San Francisco , New York , Amsterdam , Cologne , Frankfurt / Main and Munich, among others . In 2002 she sang the female lead in the American premiere of the opera L'Amour de loin at the Santa Fe Opera .
She has published various recordings on sound carriers and is known as an interpreter of works by Mozart and Wagner. Songs by Mahler and baroque music are also in her repertoire.
