Monika Baer
Monika Baer (* 1964 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German painter.
From 1985 to 1992 she studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy (with Alfonso Hüppi ). In 1992 she became a master class student and received a Paris scholarship. In 1998 she received the Peter Mertes grant . She has lived and worked in Berlin since 1999.

Baer's pictures are partly influenced by the surrealism of the 20th century. Traditional themes are taken up by Baer, at the same time the artist distances herself from them. Since 1992/93 Baer has been painting portraits in watercolor , mostly from photos. These carefully and detailed portraits seem to characterize the people Baer has been getting from magazines, television newspapers and old black-and-white photos since 1994.
