Monika Berwein
Monika Berwein-Schmid (born August 31, 1957 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a former German ski racer . In the mid-1970s she was one of the strongest slalom and giant slalom runners of the German Ski Association (DSV).
The biggest success of her career, she celebrated in January 1976 with a second place in the World Cup slalom of Les Gets . That placement remained her only one on the podium. Another eight times between 1975 and 1977 she was among the top ten. In February 1976 she competed in slalom at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck , but was eliminated in the second round. Monika Berwein was German runner-up twice. In 1974 she became Junior European Champion in giant slalom and 1975 in slalom.
After retiring from active ski racing, Berwein trained as a ski instructor and now runs a ski school for young people in Bad Oberdorf .
