Monika Kristina Fagerholm (* 1961 in Helsingfors ) is a Finnish-Swedish author who lives in Finland and writes in Swedish . She lives in Ekenäs , Finland, studied psychology and literature at the University of Helsinki and graduated in 1987 with a degree in social sciences .

Her first book Sham was published that year. Her literary breakthrough came in 1994 with the novel Underbara kvinnor vid vatten , which was nominated for Finland's most important literary prize in 1994, the Finlandia Prize . In 1995 she was nominated for the August Prize in Sweden, the Prix ​​Aristeion in 1996 and the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 1998. In 1994 she received the Runeberg Prize .
