Monika Helmecke

Monika Helmecke , née Monika Steiner (born October 16, 1943 in Berlin-Köpenick ) is a German writer.

Life

Monika Helmecke was born in 1943 as the youngest of four children of a railroad worker. She spent her childhood and youth in East Berlin . After training as a stenographer , she studied finance with a degree in business administration.

In 1970 she married Manfred Helmecke . They have four children together. In 1978 she decided to live as a freelance writer. With Knockzeichen, her first volume of short stories was published in 1979 by Neues Leben . A large number of other novels, short stories, detective novels, radio plays and articles in anthologies, magazines and reading books followed. Her works have been translated into 11 languages ​​to date.

Together with her husband Manfred, she also edited a number of children's books and published radio plays. They have spent several years together in Northern Norway since the 1990s . This life continues to inspire her works to this day. In 1999 a collection of diaries appeared from her first stay, in which both Manfred and her youngest son Michael Helmecke are included with contributions. Today Monika Helmecke lives with her husband in Genthin near Magdeburg, interrupted by annual stays in Norway .
