A monolithic dome (English: Monolithic Dome ) is a monolithic building , which has the shape of a hemisphere with an outer shell made of reinforced concrete . The design resembles that of an igloo , the Eskimos' snow house . In the United States in particular , the monolithic dome has found numerous advocates, but in Europe this construction is almost unknown.

Manufacturing

A plastic shell is attached to a concrete foundation , which is first inflated and then lined with foam on the inside. The steel reinforcement is attached to the foam and then concrete is sprayed on. Windows and doors are created by not coating areas of the inflated plastic shell. The resulting hard shell is furnished inside according to the wishes of the architects .

features

This construction is suitable for both cold and warm climates. It saves heating energy and is cheaper to build than a conventional solid structure made of reinforced concrete. Monolithic domes are considered storm-proof, non-flammable and permanent. They are used as residential buildings, but are also suitable for public facilities such as schools and churches.
