The millstone in front of the entrance to the Carrer Paradís building No. 10 marks the highest point of the elevation. This is where the Center Excursionista de Catalunya (CEC) is located, an association founded by alpinists in the 19th century. |
Mont Tàber ( Catalan for "Tàber-Berg", Spanish : Monte Táber ) is a hill in Barcelona's old town Barri Gòtic . Its “summit” is 16.9 meters above sea level , making it the highest point in the old town. The Romans built the settlement of Barcino on the hillabout 2000 years ago, from which the city of Barcelona later developed. A temple of Augustus was builton the highest point of the hill, of which four columns are still preserved. The forum of the Barcino settlement was right next to the temple; on the spot where the Palau de la Generalitat is today. The "summit" is marked by a millstone . This is located in the pavement in the street Carrer Paradís in front of the entrance to the Center Excursionista de Catalunya (Catalan hikers and mountaineers association).
