Surname
The community is named after in Virginia situated Mount Vernon the first US president George Washington . Why, in contrast to the countless other places in the USA that are named after the country seat of Washington, the "u" is missing in the name is not clear.
Culture
Lamson Farm in Mont Vernon , dating back to 1770, is on the National Register of Historic Places and is now open to the public as a museum. Lamson Farm Day is celebrated here in September by the city .
