Montalto Ligure (in Ligurian : Muntótu ) is a northern Italian town and former municipality with 397 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016) in the Liguria region . Politically it belongs to the province of Imperia .

With effect from January 1, 2018, the municipality merged with the municipality of Carpasio to form the new municipality of Montalto Carpasio .
