history

Before the village was founded, gold was searched for here. The village was founded in the spring of 1880 as "The Luckacho Sheep Farming Company" by Scottish pioneers, whose descendants still live in the village today. The village got its current name from the founder's second husband, a doctor, who named the settlement after the highest point of the settlement, which served as a landmark on the Magellan Strait .
