Montes de León
The Montes de León are a mountain range in the west of the Spanish provinces of León and Zamora in the autonomous region of Castile-León . They form a south-western foothill of the Cantabrian Mountains and, together with them, enclose the Valle del Bierzo with the center of Ponferrada, which is only 500 meters high . The mountains reach their greatest height with the 2188 meter high Pico de Teleno , but about ten other peaks have heights of over 2000 meters - including the 2121 meter high Vizcodillo .
Subdivision
The Montes de León are divided into various smaller mountain ranges, e.g. B. the Montes Aquilanos , the Sierra Segundera , the Sierra de la Cabrera , the Sierra de la Culebra , the Sierra Gamoneda , the Sierra del Teleno or the Macizo de Trevinca .
Rivers
The most important rivers in the northwest of the Montes de León are the Río Sil and the Río Bibey ; on the east side, for example, the Río Eria , the Río Duerna , the Río Codes or the Río Jamuz arise ; the main river in the south of the mountains is the Río Tera . The rivers on the west side of the mountains drain over the Río Sil and the Río Miño into the Atlantic Ocean , those in the south and east over the Duero also into the Atlantic Ocean.
