Montezuma's Revenge (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Montezuma's Revenge is a Dutch a cappella group that started in 1985 as a group of students with their teacher. They quickly became a professional band that combined music and theater.

history

From the moment Montezuma took to the stage, they had set themselves the goal of putting on a show that was more than just music. This goal has been referred to several times in reviews, for example the Dutch daily De Telegraaf wrote of "Music to watch".

What is striking about Montezuma is the number of member changes in the group. Only Paul Klooté is left of the original formation. The many changes made a big contribution to the variety of the show. The show In Pursuit of Pleasure (1998-2000) was characterized by leather, metal and rock music. Two shows later, something completely different hit the stage: Hits Again (2002-2004). With a strongly changed line-up, pop was produced with pieces and the like. a. from Wham and the Spice Girls.

In the show Blind Man's Dream , Montezuma 's repertoire consisted mostly of cover versions . The press and the public reacted very differently to this. Some felt that a band had to be able to write their own pieces, other media and the audience showed a lot of respect for the kind of arrangements and performances, which alone make up their own style.

The group began to break up at the end of 2007 and said goodbye in a big closing show (along with many former members). Apart from smaller appearances (for example Sanne de Waard with www.vocaloop.com) there were no recognizable activities.

In May 2011 there was a surprising update on the still active Montezuma website:

On September 23, 2011, the group appeared again with the new line-up for the first time. On December 6th they recorded their performance in Gouda on DVD and sold it as “Montezuma's Revenge SRIKES BACK”. Her first appearance in Germany with the new line-up was on June 11, 2012 in Mainz. In July 2012 they were again guests at the Freiburg Tent Music Festival together with Unduzo and Rockapella on the A cappella night .

Others

Spaniards who settled in Mexico after colonization were quickly plagued by diarrhea , caused by the different climate , diet and bacteria to which they were not used. This diarrhea was supposed to be a curse of the mind of Montezuma , just Montezuma's revenge . It's this curse that the band named themselves after.
