The Montrol Rock ( French Île Montrol ) is the largest of a group of cliff rocks east of Cape Juncal of D'Urville Island in the group of Joinville Islands off the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula .
Participants in the Third French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840) under the direction of Jules Dumont d'Urville discovered him. D'Urville named him after the French journalist and politician François Mongin de Montrol (1799–1862). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee changed D'Urville's designation into English in 1953.
