Monzenbach (noble family)
The Lords of Monzenbach were a in the 13th and 14th centuries in the space Herborn and Driedorf -based and gender begütertes Niederadliger . They were first documented in 1257, but attested for the last time as early as 1351.
The family was named after their estate and ancestral home in the settlement of Monzenbach, which was last documented to be inhabited in 1498, on the upper reaches of the stream of the same name , about halfway (as the crow flies) between Seelbach and Oberscheld in the Lahn-Dill district . The Monzenbachers were close neighbors and probably also relatives and heirs of the Lords of Dernbach . Their disappearance from the history of the Herborn area may be related to the outcome of the Dernbach feud ; It is not known whether they died out or just migrated. In any case, their estate and the Monzenbach settlement fell into desolation and were included in the Seelbach district. The remnants of their property, like those of the Dernbacher, were bought up by Seelbacher farmers in the 17th century.
