Dee Dee Blanchard murder case

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The murder case Dee Dee Blanchard is an act committed on June 14, 2015 in Springfield , Missouri , of the American Clauddinnea "Dee Dee" Blanchard (1967-2015).

It can be assumed that Dee Dee Blanchard suffered from the mental disorder of Munchausen deputy syndrome . With fraud and manipulation towards doctors and those around her, she managed to artificially stage her only daughter, Gypsy Rose Blanchard (* 1991), as seriously ill. As the daughter got older, the two began to become increasingly isolated in order to perpetuate the lie. The mother kept her daughter sick with drugs, among other things, as a result of which she lost her teeth, for example. She also shaved off her hair continuously to give the impression that Gypsy was suffering from leukemia . Dee Dee made her sit in a wheelchair by claiming that her daughter was suffering from muscle wasting . Gypsy grew up believing she was indeed sick - but she knew that despite feeding, she could eat and walk.

Gypsy met Nicholas Paul Godejohn (* 1989) on the Internet. He murdered Dee Dee Blanchard by stabbing him with a knife one night between June 9 and 14, 2015. Gypsy was convicted of involvement in her mother's murder.

HBO produced the documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest about the case in 2017, directed by Erin Lee Carr .

The US video-on-demand transmitter Hulu produced with The Act an eight-part television series about the case with Patricia Arquette and Joey King in the lead roles. The series first aired on March 20, 2019.
