The Moremi Game Reserve or Moremi Conservation Area (English Moremi Game Reserve ) is a 4871 km² reserve in northwestern Botswana . It is located southwest of Chobe National Park and ecologically belongs to the same area; both are part of the cross-border Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area .

The game reserve was proclaimed on March 15, 1963 by Mrs. Moremi, widow of Chief Moremi III of the Batawana , in order to protect the game-rich part of the Okavango Delta . It is at an average altitude of 900 meters above sea level, the annual precipitation is 400 to 500 mm.

The habitats in the reserve vary from mopane forests, dry savannas , grasslands , swamps with papyrus stocks , watercourses, lagoons and islands to permanent bodies of water. Fig trees , liver sausage trees and palm trees grow near the water ; a total of over 1000 plant species have been recorded in the Moremi game reserve. In the dry season from July to October, many water points dry out.

The most common animals in the Moremi Game Reserve are buffalo and hippos , but there are also many great kudu , sitatungas , impala , pukus , wildebeest , bushbuck , sassabies and roan antelopes . In addition, live zebras , springbok and lechwe -Antilopen in the reserve and rhinos were reintroduced. Predators such as cheetah , leopard , lion , African wild dog and hyenas are found. Over 560 bird species have been counted, including the brown-throated heron and the rock crane . The game reserve does not offer an optimal habitat for elephants , but the Chobe National Park is within reach. In the north of Botswana and the neighboring countries, elephants are dependent on extensive migrations across the borders of protected areas and states.
