Bryan Edgar Wallace (born April 28, 1904 in London , † 1971 ), also Edgar Wallace jr. , was an English crime writer and screenwriter. He was also the son of the successful writer Edgar Wallace .

Life

Bryan Edgar Wallace was born in April 1904 to the British writer Edgar Wallace and his first wife Ivy Wallace, nee Caldecott. Wallace named him after the American Senator William Jennings Bryan , with whom he was friends. Bryan Edgar went to the Oundle School and later to Emanuelle College in Cambridge , then he was an officer in the British Army. After serving in the military, he worked as a screenwriter for British Lion , Gaumont British Picture Corporation , Twentieth Century Fox and other film companies before working as a secretary in the British Embassy in Madrid for twelve years .

Bryan Edgar married his father's biographer, Margaret Lane , in 1934 , but they divorced in 1939. In 1940 he married Wylodine van Dyke Jones from Columbus , Ohio. He and his wife spent the evening of his life at Champigny Castle in Champigny-sur-Veude near Tours on the Loire in France.

The detective novels by Bryan Edgar Wallace were heavily influenced by those of his father, but acted mainly of agents and world domination plans. He couldn't achieve the fame of his father.

Filmography

After a meeting with the film producer Artur Brauner , some of Bryan Edgar Wallace's novels , which were published in Germany by Goldmann Verlag , became part of the Edgar Wallace boom triggered by Constantin Film and Rialto Film in the 1960s and 1970s filmed . In some cases, only his name was used and only a small number of the films were made based on his novels; in addition, completely new, Edgar Wallace-like fabrics were invented.

Since The Secret of the Black Gloves and The Nine-Tailed Cat belong to Dario Argento's "Animal Trilogy", for the sake of completeness, Four Flies on Gray Velvet (1971) is assigned as the last part of the Bryan Edgar Wallace series. In fact, however, the film was never officially marketed as such.
