occupation

The Dead Are Alive (Original: L 'etrusco uccide ancora) is a genre thriller associated thriller from the year 1972 which has arisen in German-Italian-Yugoslavian co-production. In Germany, this “ Giallo ” was marketed as the last part of the Bryan Edgar Wallace series; however, it is not based on a template by the author.

action

The American archaeologist Jason Porter explores the burial sites of the Etruscans on the property of the conductor Nikos Samarakis. He is now married to Porter's ex-wife Myra, who left him because of his alcohol problem. So there is increasing tension between Samarakis and Porter, who is still lagging behind Myra.

During the excavation, Porter comes across a new burial chamber with cave paintings depicting the murder of a young couple by a demon. A short time later, such a crime actually happened in an old tomb, in which a young couple was killed with one of Jason's research probes. It is also noticeable that the murderer put red ballet shoes on the girl and played a loud recording of a Verdi opera after the murder . In addition to Jason, other people repeatedly come under suspicion while the perpetrator is looking for the next victim. In the end, the crazy Igor Samarakis is found to be a murderer. But the latter commits suicide with a broken glass pane by ramming it into his own stomach.

criticism

The short review in the lexicon of international films represents a total dismantling , which saw "a confused mixture of horror film, crime thriller and psycho-shocker, low tension and completely implausible".

background

The secret of the yellow grave should be the last crime film that can be added to the German Edgar Wallace films . However, he could not continue the successes of his predecessors, which is why other similar projects of Brauner's CCC film were no longer tackled.

In German cinemas, the film was only released in a heavily abridged version and with an FSK approval “from 18 years”. The VHS version, which was shortened again , was given an FSK rating of “16 years and older”. The Universum Film DVD , however, contains the uncut version.
