The Morgenröte mine was a small iron ore mine near Wilden (municipality of Wilnsdorf ) in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The pit was below the Elkersberg , northeast of the Waldstrasse, at an altitude of approx. 380 m. The mine was consolidated with the Wildener Grube Landeskrone . The tunnel entrance , which is located on a forest path, is blocked by a grate, and the dump opposite it can still be seen today. A viewing point consisting of a bench and fences was built on the heap.

history

On March 21, 1874, a 109,410 m² mine field was muted under the name Dawn . 24 people, mostly from the wild, were given the right to mine iron ores. At the end of an approximately 300 m long tunnel, a 40 m deep day shaft was built. A cross passage was created 10 m below the lawn surface. The mine was operated for the last time on January 15, 1915. Until 1953, the tunnel served the community of Wilden to produce drinking water.
