Moritzberg Tower (2010)

The Moritzbergturm is a viewing tower in the Franconian Alb on the summit plateau of the Moritzberg ( 603.5  m above sea  level ) in the Röthenbacher hamlet Moritzberg in the Bavarian district of Nürnberger Land . The originally 21 m high structure is currently 30 m high.

history

From 1910 a long-planned observation tower was built on the Moritzberg plateau, which was inaugurated in 1911, but was only provisionally completed in 1913. The originally designed height of the tower could not be realized because the financial means, mainly raised from donations, were no longer sufficient.

The tower, initially known as the Bismarck Tower when construction began , was renamed the Hindenburg Tower in July 1918 , but both names were ultimately only episodes - today the observation tower is only referred to as the Moritzberg Tower , although the Hindenburg Tower is still carved over the door ledge. The originally very far-reaching view from the observation deck of the tower is now only possible to a very limited extent due to the surrounding forest. Today the tower is looked after by the Moritzberg e. V.

Since 1952, the Moritzberg tower has also been used as a transmission tower for various radio applications, including the Bavarian radio, the BOS radio and the amateur radio service .

The amateur radio relay DBØANN has also been located here since 1969
