The solitude of Moritzberg is a district of the city of Röthenbach an der Pegnitz in the district of Nürnberger Land , Middle Franconia .

geography

The wasteland is named after the Moritzberg of the same name , on whose summit plateau the place is located. Numerous historical pits are listed as geotope 574G004.

history

The district consists of a private house (Moritzberg 4), an inn, a chapel and an observation tower. After this was called the "Bismarck Tower" when the foundation stone was laid in 1910, it was renamed "Hindenburg Tower" in July 1918. Today the tower is known as the Moritzberg Tower .

Today's private house was a relay station for the American military radio station AFN ( American Forces Network ) and Bayerischer Rundfunk, and part of a VHF transmission system that went into operation in October 1952 to supply the greater Nuremberg area with radio and television signals. A 30-meter-high lattice mast was erected next to this building to radiate the 3-kilowatt transmission power. Barely two years after the transmitter was put into operation, however, its operation was stopped again because the approach lane at Nuremberg Airport , which is located directly to the north of the Moritzberg, no longer allowed the necessary increase in transmission power. The lattice mast was dismantled and the task of the Moritzberger transmission system was taken over by the Dillberg transmitter .

With the community edict (1808) Moritzberg belonged to the politically independent community Haimendorf . On July 1, 1972, it was incorporated into Röthenbach an der Pegnitz as part of the Bavarian regional reform .
