Morris Michtom
Morris Michtom (* 1870 in Russia , † July 21, 1938 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York , USA ) was the inventor of the teddy bear .
In 1887 he emigrated to New York as a Jewish refugee. He married Rose and opened a small business in Brooklyn , New York.
On November 18, 1902, the Washington Post published a cartoon depicting President Theodore Roosevelt's refusal to shoot a captive bear.
Morris designed a stuffed toy bear that Rose sewed and placed in the shop window with the cartoon. In 1907 they founded the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company .
