Morris Minor and the Majors
Morris Minor and the Majors were a British band from Rotherham in South Yorkshire , England .
history
It was founded by British comedians Tony Hawks and Paul Boross. The name of the band is a parody: the smaller Morris Morris Minor was a small car widespread in Great Britain and the plural of the military rank major can also be translated as the larger ones. Tony Hawks used Morris Minor as a stage name, Paul Boross appeared as Rusty Wing and Phil Judge as Phil Errup.
The group became known in 1987 for their rap parody Stutter Rap (No Sleep til Bedtime) , which is based on the style of No Sleep till Brooklyn by the Beastie Boys . The song peaked at # 4 on the UK Singles Chart and even ranked # 2 in Australia. The stutter rap and other songs written by Tony Hawks can be heard on the artist's official website.
The second single This Is the Chorus only reached position 95 in Great Britain and the third single Morris Minor could not be placed at all.
However, his hit enabled Hawks to write the TV series Morris Minor's Marvelous Motors , in which he plays a fictional band leader who has to survive with a car repair shop. The first and only season of 6 episodes aired on BBC One in 1989 .
