Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins (Original Title: Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins ) is an animated film produced by Treshold Entertainment from 1995 . The film not only contains 2D animations, but also CGI and motion capture effects. It is about the story of all characters (except Kano and Reptile) from the first part of the video game " Mortal Kombat ".

The characters Liu Kang, Johnny Cage and Sonja Blade travel on a mysterious ship to get to the tournament "Mortal Kombat". On the way they meet Raiden, the god of thunder, who gives them some clues on how to defeat Shang Tsung and his army. Once on the island, Raiden tells them the origin of the following characters: Shang Tsung, Goro, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and the great Kung Lao. In between, various battle scenes are shown.

The film was produced in 1995 by Treshold Entertainment based on a script by Kevin Droney. The music was composed by Jonathan Sloate.
Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins was released by New Line Home Video on VHS and Laserdisc (the latter version only in the USA) and has a total playing time of 54 minutes.
